Yes, not lasting more than about 3 years is a problem, but 1 year is much worse than what I usually experience. I expect the remotes usually to work for a few years before I start noticing button problems, but I don't expect them to last 5 years. Logitech - Harmony 665 10-Device Universal Remote - Black Model: 915-000293 SKU: 5852832 4.3(5,868 Reviews) 873 Answered Questions 89. I prefer simpler, and thus have gravitated to the 6xx series.Īs for the 6xx/7xx lines' buttons going bad, yes that does happen, but I usually get several years out of them. if you have people in the house would don't know how to troubleshoot. The more complex Harmony remotes are more complex, and sometimes that adds problems, esp. Too irritating trying to control a lot of devices with these, and they don't work at all with some devices. However, if you have anything off the beaten track and/or have more than just a few devices, then they aren't very useful in my experience. The $20 universal remotes can work well if you have just a couple of devices and the right devices. I personally would get the smart hub for $90 or a $10 universal remote if you just have a couple devices to control I would get a cheap phillips one for 10 bucks that works equally well. The keys crap out after a year or so.you can fix it yourself so its not that big of a deal but the quality is not that great. I’m guessing the 665 will be the same, as it appears to be near-identical hardware. In contrast, if I used regular rechargeable eneloops, it would only last 4-6 weeks. For my usage they would last several months. It should be noted that the 650 worked best with alkaline disposable batteries. I also prefer remotes that use separate batteries, so they don’t need to be plugged in. However, MyHarmony does work fine, and I have confirmed it works both on macOS 10.13 High Sierra and on Windows 10, despite being older software. The MyHarmony software, which is actually old software does work, but isn’t as flexible as the older software. For most (but not all) people, 10 is actually a decent amount. They’ve gradually increased the number of devices allowed, but IIRC they limited it to 8 devices (from the original 5), whereas the new 665 increases that to 10. However, annoyingly, Logitech limited the number devices used. If you need Bluetooth support then you’re stuck with the Bluetooth capable solutions, but if the system is all infrared, I much prefer a solution like the Harmony 650/665. Yeah, I find using your phone to control the system is generally a sub-par experience.
